my background

I found my way to Library Sciences and Museum Studies primarily through the Book and Media Studies undergraduate program at UofT, which explores the history of books and technology largely through the legacy of Marshall McLuhan. Through this program, alongside my French and Classics courses, I developed a deep curiosity in books as artifacts and material objects. I had the opportunity to continue studying the history of books, printing and reading during my graduate studies through a specialization in Book History and Print Culture.

I also found my way to these fields after 13 years of attending (and eventually directing) an overnight summer camp, where I developed experience in leadership and facilitating informal education. Only in retrospect have I come to realize just how much the values I learned at summer camp resonate with the core values of librarianship.

I have had the privilege of working closely with and exploring rare books and printing artifacts through my work as the Acquisitions Specialist at the Thomas Fisher Rare Book Library. I feel drawn to rare books and special collections because these spaces, where materials are actively studied and handled by visitors, seem to exist at the intersection of libraries and museums.
